Make A Plan

Don’t blindly start flailing around with no clear direction.  Sit down and write out the steps you are going to take.

These may include the following:

  1. Do some research.  Learn how to write a compelling resume and cover letter.  Learn how to present yourself well in an interview.  Discover what avenues and programs are available to direct your search for employment.
  2. Create your resume.  Make it compelling and have it reviewed by others for their input, especially any professionals.
  3. Spread the word among friends and family that you are looking for work and what kind of work you are looking for.
  4. Sign up for local job boards and register yourself online with sites like monster.com.
  5. Consider temp or contract work to get you by for the time being.
  6. Consider other directions or forms of employment than previous.
  7. Take advantage of any programs available, such as filing for unemployment.
  8. Brainstorm.  Think outside the box.  Be creative.  Write up a list of places to apply or things to try.
