Don’t blindly start flailing around with no clear direction. Sit down and write out the steps you are going to take.
These may include the following:
- Do some research. Learn how to write a compelling resume and cover letter. Learn how to present yourself well in an interview. Discover what avenues and programs are available to direct your search for employment.
- Create your resume. Make it compelling and have it reviewed by others for their input, especially any professionals.
- Spread the word among friends and family that you are looking for work and what kind of work you are looking for.
- Sign up for local job boards and register yourself online with sites like monster.com.
- Consider temp or contract work to get you by for the time being.
- Consider other directions or forms of employment than previous.
- Take advantage of any programs available, such as filing for unemployment.
- Brainstorm. Think outside the box. Be creative. Write up a list of places to apply or things to try.
